The "Ho" designation on this cash coin indicates it was struck at the Hojo, the Board of Taxation in Seoul — one of several government bureaus authorized to operate their own furnaces during the Joseon dynasty's decentralized mun production. Bureau-specific casting rights were granted and revoked repeatedly across the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries as the court struggled to control chronic copper shortages and rampant counterfeiting. KM#72 falls within a period when at least a dozen separate authorities were casting simultaneously, making mint attribution the primary collector challenge for this series.
