Obverse description Central square hole flanked by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform layout within a plain circular border. Reading clockwise from top, the legend 常平通寶 (Sangpyong Tongbo) identifies this as currency of the Sangpyong (Ever-Normal) Treasury, a financial institution of the Joseon Dynasty. The characters 常 (sang) and 平 (pyong) appear on the vertical axis, while 通 (tong) and 寶 (bo) appear on the horizontal axis, all rendered in regular script (kaishu). The field is unadorned, consistent with standard cast cash coinage of the period.
