The two-dot tong designation on this piece places its production at the Supervisorate of Firewood and Charcoal (Jangheunggo), one of dozens of government offices authorized to operate casting furnaces during the chaotic decentralization of Joseon minting in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. By 1832, the proliferation of issuing authorities had become a genuine administrative problem — coin quality and alloy composition varied so wildly between offices that identical denominations circulated at different effective values. The "Small Narrow Type" classification reflects an effort to impose some dimensional standardization, though enforcement remained inconsistent across furnaces.
