Additional information

Mohammad I (Mohammad Khodabandeh) came to power in 1578 largely because his poor eyesight made him appear politically unthreatening to the Qizilbash amirs who effectively controlled the court. His reign coincided with the Ottomano-Safavid War of 1578–1590, during which Tabriz itself fell under serious military pressure — the mint continued operating, but output was irregular and coinage from these years survives in inconsistent quality as a direct result of the disrupted administrative apparatus.

The Type B classification distinguishes this issue from earlier Mohammad I strikes by its calligraphic arrangement, a distinction that helps narrow production to the latter phase of his troubled reign.
