The four characters read clockwise: 紹 (top), 聖 (right), 元 (bottom), 寳 (left), forming the reign era legend 紹聖元寳 (Shōseigenpō). The characters are rendered in the archaic seal script style characteristic of Nagasaki trade coinage, cast in moderate relief within a plain raised rim. |

Completely plain and featureless reverse, bearing no inscription, decoration, or mint mark. A raised rim encircles the smooth, flat field, which surrounds the central square hole. The unadorned reverse is typical of Nagasaki cast copper mon coinage of the late seventeenth century. |
