| Obverse description | Cast copper cash coin of the traditional East Asian type, featuring a central square hole flanked by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion reading clockwise from top: 寛 (Kan), 通 (tsū), 永 (ei), 寳 (hō), together forming the legend 寛永通寳 (Kan'eitsūhō). The raised characters are rendered in regular script (kaisho) style, standing in bold relief against the flat, unadorned field. A plain raised rim encircles the entire design. |
