| 裏面の説明 | The reverse is essentially plain, with the central square perforation surrounded by a smooth, undecorated field and a raised outer rim. A faint horizontal raised line or vestigial mark may appear across the field below the square hole, consistent with known examples of this type; no additional legend or ornamental device is present. |

The Gennatsūhō was issued under the Tokugawa shogunate during the Genna era, part of the bakufu's early effort to rationalize copper coinage following decades of monetary chaos under the Sengoku period's competing regional currencies. Private and temple mints had flooded circulation with inconsistent cast pieces, and the shogunate's standardization campaign was as much a political assertion as an economic one. This type was cast rather than struck — the flash lines from sand-casting molds are often still visible on surviving examples.
