| Obverse description | Four large cast Chinese characters are arranged in cruciform fashion around the central square perforation, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left in the traditional manner: 元 (top), 通 (right), 和 (bottom), 寶 (left), together forming the legend 'Genna Tsūhō' (Currency of the Genna era). The characters are boldly rendered in relief against a flat, unadorned field, with a raised rim encircling the design. Two varieties are known, distinguished by relative character size (large and small). |

| Reverse description | The reverse is essentially plain, with the central square perforation surrounded by a smooth, undecorated field and a raised outer rim. A faint horizontal raised line or vestigial mark may appear across the field below the square hole, consistent with known examples of this type; no additional legend or ornamental device is present. |
