| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents the Islamic declaration of faith (Kalima) in bold Naskh calligraphy within a central oval cartouche, reading 'La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammad rasul Allah' (There is no god but God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God). Below the Kalima, the mint name 'Zarb Shahjahanabad' is inscribed, followed by the Hijri year and regnal year of issue. The central cartouche is surrounded by an exuberant arabesque border of scrolling floral and foliate ornament, interspersed with small rosette devices, executed in the highly ornate style favoured at the Shahjahanabad mint. A continuous dotted border runs along the periphery, framing the entire decorative composition. The deeply hammered legends and rich surface ornamentation are hallmarks of gold mohurs struck under Shah Jahan's patronage. |
