Obverse description The obverse field is entirely occupied by a multi-line Mughal Persian legend in bold Nasta'liq calligraphy, arranged across three horizontal bands divided by raised linear borders. The legend records the name and titles of the Mughal emperor Shah Alam II along with the Islamic profession of faith (kalima). Scattered pellet ornaments fill the interstices between the script bands, and the entire design is enclosed within a beaded border running along the coin's periphery. The high-relief lettering is characteristic of the Bengal Presidency's adaptation of Mughal coinage conventions.
Obverse script Arabic
Obverse lettering شاه عالم بادشاه غازی فضل الله فضل الله
