Jaunpur's inclusion as an active Mughal mint reflects the administrative consolidation following Akbar's campaigns into the eastern provinces during the 1560s. The city had been the capital of the independent Jaunpur Sultanate until its absorption into the Delhi Sultanate in 1479, and Akbar's decision to operate a mint there was partly political — coinage being among the most visible assertions of sovereign control over a newly integrated region.
The KM#105.4 designation distinguishes this by mint attribution, a classification that remains contested in some catalogues due to the difficulty of reading mint names on worn or poorly struck Akbar-era gold.
