Obverse description The obverse field is entirely occupied by the Kalima, the Islamic profession of faith, rendered in bold and sweeping Naskh calligraphy across two registers. The legend reads 'La ilaha illallah Muhammad rasul Allah' (There is no god but God, Muhammad is the messenger of God), with the script flowing dynamically across the flan. A dotted or dashed inner border frames the inscribed field, and the irregular hammered flan imparts a characteristically uneven outline to the coin. The bold, deeply struck lettering reflects the high standard of Mughal calligraphic artistry applied to coinage during the reign of Akbar.
