| Obverse description | Standing figure of Saint Mark, nimbed and robed, facing front at center, presenting a vexillum (standard) to the kneeling Doge Lorenzo Priuli, who appears in ducal robes with hands clasped in a gesture of devotion. The saint and Doge are depicted in the characteristic Venetian ceremonial style. The circular Latin legend surrounds the composition, reading LAVRENTIVS·PRIOLVS·S·M·VENET·DVX, identifying the Doge and his patron saint. The field is flat and unadorned, consistent with hammered Venetian silver coinage of the mid-sixteenth century. |
