Obverse description Two standing figures face one another across the field, divided by a tall vertical staff or gonfalon. To the left stands Saint Mark, nimbed and robed, holding the Gospel book; to the right stands the kneeling Doge Andrea Gritti in ducal robes and corno ducale, receiving the standard in an investiture scene. The abbreviation DVX appears in the field between the figures. The circumferential legend in Latin reads DVX. ANDREAS. GRITI. S. M. VENET., separated by pellets, enclosed within a beaded border.
