Obverse description St. Mark the Evangelist, standing facing left in episcopal vestments and holding a long patriarchal cross-staff, presents the gonfalon banner to the kneeling Doge Agostino Barbarigo, who is shown in ducal robes with his hands raised in supplication. The two figures are separated by the vertical staff of the banner, creating a strongly bilateral composition characteristic of Venetian coinage of the period. A beaded inner circle frames the design, with the circular legend distributed around the periphery of the field.
