| Obverse description | Hammered gold mithqal struck at Kashan in AH 985 (1578 CE), displaying densely executed nasta'liq and thuluth calligraphy arranged in two horizontal registers divided by a ruled line across the field. The upper register bears the devotional inscription identifying the issuer as a servant of the Imam Muhammad al-Mahdi, while the lower register records the mint name Kashan and the regnal year 985. The irregular flan exhibits characteristic flat-struck high relief typical of Safavid hammered coinage, with the legends filling the field to the very edge of the coin. |
