| Obverse description | Four Chinese characters arranged in a cruciform reading order — top to bottom, right to left — surrounding a small central square void. The legend reads 光緒銀錢 (Guangxu Yinqian, meaning 'Guangxu Silver Coin'), referencing the Guangxu Emperor (r. 1875–1908) of the Qing dynasty. The characters are hand-engraved in a bold, slightly irregular style consistent with provincial hammered coinage. The field is plain and unadorned beyond the central square and the four inscribed characters. |

Kashgar's 1878 silver miscal issue was among the earliest coins struck after Qing forces under Zuo Zongtang reconquered Xinjiang from Yaqub Beg's breakaway Yettishar state. The mint reopened almost immediately as a deliberate assertion of restored imperial authority in a region that had been effectively independent for over a decade. These early reestablishment strikes are notoriously inconsistent — the Kashgar mint was working with refurbished or improvised equipment, and planchet preparation was rough throughout this initial period.
