Obverse description A large stylized oak tree dominates the field, its trunk framing the city's coat of arms at center, which depicts a fortified tower gateway. The city name is divided vertically by the tree, reading 'STADT' to the left and 'MENDEN' to the right in bold raised letters. Three historical dates associated with the city — 811, 1343, and 1816 — are inscribed among the upper branches of the oak. The composition conveys civic identity through a confident, expressionist design characteristic of German Notgeld issues of the early 1920s.
