Not legal tender, never intended to be. American Art Classics produced these novelty million-dollar notes throughout the early 2000s as gift and souvenir items, a category that caused enough confusion at retail checkouts and gas stations that the Secret Service periodically reminded the public that no U.S. denomination above $100,000 has ever circulated — and that figure was a 1934 gold certificate used only for interbank transfers, never public issue.
