Beschrijving voorzijde A stylized olive tree with a dense, rounded canopy occupies the center of the field, its gnarled trunk rising from a low ground line. The Arabic legend البنك المركزي التونسي (Banque Centrale de Tunisie) curves around the upper and lateral periphery. The date 1960 is inscribed in Western-Arabic numerals along the lower exergual area. The polished planchet displays a high-gloss, proof-like surface consistent with its essai uniface striking. No denomination or the word 'essai' appears on this die.

Beschrijving keerzijde This piece is a uniface essai struck solely with the obverse die, leaving the reverse as a plain, mirror-polished planchet with no design or inscription. It belongs to a set of seven uniface pattern pieces — paired obverse and reverse strikes produced separately on polished planchets — all exhibiting high-gloss, proof-like surfaces characteristic of presentation or approval strikings.

Aanvullende informatie

The Banque Centrale de Tunisie was established in 1958, two years after independence, replacing the Banque de France's colonial monetary authority. The 1960 millime series represented the new institution's first full coinage program — and essai pieces from this run, particularly uniface trials without the "ESSAI" designation struck into the die, were produced in extremely limited numbers for internal approval and archival purposes rather than any public distribution.

The absence of the word "essai" on this piece places it earlier in the approval sequence than standard trial strikes.
