正面描述 One-sided uniface strike produced for military pay purposes. Central cartouche in the form of a shaped shield bearing a rampant stag to the left, accompanied by a crescent moon to the left and a six-pointed star to the right in the upper field, with the date numerals flanking the base of the shield. The abbreviated royal legend IO·SE·REXVN arches across the upper portion of the cartouche in Latin characters. The broad surrounding field is plain and unadorned, consistent with the utilitarian nature of this emergency military issue.

附加信息

János Zsigmond Zápolya ruled Transylvania as prince — though he styled himself elected King of Hungary — caught perpetually between Habsburg pressure from the west and Ottoman suzerainty from the south. These thalers were struck specifically to pay mercenary troops during a period when maintaining even a semblance of military independence required hard currency in soldiers' hands. The Ottoman connection was not merely political: Suleiman the Magnificent had personally backed Zápolya's father at Mohács in 1526, and the family's grip on eastern Hungary was inseparable from that relationship.

The Resch reference numbers span a notably wide range, reflecting genuine die variation across the four-year striking period rather than a single unified emission.
