Gábor Báthori's tenure as Prince of Transylvania was one of sustained crisis. By 1611, he faced simultaneous pressure from the Habsburgs, the Ottomans, and a hostile Transylvanian nobility that would eventually have him murdered in 1613. The "Military Thaler" designation likely reflects emergency fiscal demands — coinage struck to pay troops rather than satisfy trade circuits.
The Resch references span three die varieties, and examples differ meaningfully in die alignment and mint execution. Pieces attributable to all three Resch numbers surface with roughly equal frequency, suggesting continuous rather than episodic production across that year.
