Obverse description Central field displays the crowned arms of Transylvania — a composite shield incorporating the Báthori dragon-tooth device, the Transylvanian eagle, and the seven fortresses — supported by laurel branches and surmounted by a royal crown. The heraldic composition is rendered in the bold, high-relief style characteristic of early 17th-century Transylvanian hammered coinage. A circular legend in Latin surrounds the central arms, reading GABRIELL: D:G: PRIN: TRAN: PAR: RE: HVN: D: ET SI: COME:, identifying Gabriel Báthory by his full princely titles. The legend is set within a beaded inner border and a plain outer rim typical of the Sibiu (Hermannstadt/Cibin) mint's production of this period.
