Additional information

Liberland — the self-proclaimed micronation occupying a disputed 7 km² strip of land between Croatia and Serbia on the western bank of the Danube — declared independence in April 2015, exploiting a quirk of post-Yugoslav border demarcation that left the territory unclaimed by either state. This brass piece was struck the following year as part of an early effort to establish physical monetary instruments for a nation whose president, Vít Jedlička, had been repeatedly detained by Croatian border police simply for attempting to enter his own claimed territory.
