The 1763 date places this issue in the final year of the Seven Years' War, a conflict that had devastated the treasury of virtually every German principality. Lippe, a tiny state under Simon August, resorted to billon coinage — heavily debased silver — as a practical response to metal shortages that made pure silver currency politically and financially untenable for small denominations.
