The date appears incorporated into the outer legend. The circular legend reads MONE. NO. GOSLARI, denoting the new coinage of Goslar, and runs along the coin's periphery between the inner and outer borders.

Reverse description The frontal enthroned figure of Saint Matthias, the apostle and patron saint of Goslar, is depicted in high relief at the center of the field, shown wearing ecclesiastical robes and holding his attribute. The figure is rendered in the simplified but expressive style typical of hammered Rhenish civic coinage of the mid-16th century. The circular legend SANTVS - MATHIAS identifies the saint, running along the periphery and flanking the figure to either side.
