Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse presents a similar arrangement of archaic Sinhalese script characters distributed across the coin's surface in a style consistent with the obverse. The inscription again renders the royal name and title 'Sri Parakramabahu' in multiple horizontal registers. The hammered flan exhibits an irregular outline with flat relief typical of medieval Kotte Kingdom copper coinage. The surface displays natural verdigris patination and minor die-shift characteristic of hand-struck issues of the fifteenth century.

Aanvullende informatie

Parākramabāhu VI ruled from Kotte — near modern Colombo — and was the last king to unify Sri Lanka under a single authority. His reign coincided with the early Portuguese reconnaissance of the Indian Ocean, though contact with European maritime powers came only after his death. The massa was a low-denomination workhorse of everyday Sinhalese commerce, and copper examples from this reign survive in highly variable condition owing to Sri Lanka's humid, acidic soil.
