Obverse description Typographic design in black on cream paper, with a bold pattern of vertical bars forming a decorative border on both sides of the note. The denomination numeral '1' is printed in large type at the top centre, followed by 'MARK' in smaller lettering beneath a ruled line. The issuer's name and validity date are set in an expressive hand-lettered typeface across the centre field, with a small asterisk ornament above the validity clause. The designer's name 'G. RÖWING' appears in small lettering at the foot of the note.

Reverse description The reverse carries a bold woodcut-style vignette executed in black on cream paper, occupying almost the entire note surface within a plain rectangular border. The vignette presents a street view of a multi-storey Baroque civic building in Lübeck, rendered in a flat, expressionist graphic manner with strong contrasts between solid black and unprinted areas. Flanking architectural elements — including a stepped gable to the left and a tall Gothic church spire to the right — frame the central structure, and the artist's signature appears in the lower left margin of the vignette.
