Vereinigung zur Kunstpflege — literally "Association for the Cultivation of Art" — was one of dozens of Lübeck cultural bodies that issued emergency notgeld during the severe coin shortage of 1921. What distinguishes this issuer is the premise: an arts organization producing currency, however provisional, is an unusual donor to the notgeld record. Röwing's design work here was local, and the note was almost certainly printed in small runs intended partly for collectors, a practice widespread in that period and openly encouraged by municipal and private issuers alike.

The series reference (0832.1-3/3) indicates three variants exist within this type.
