| Descrizione del dritto | Multicolour letterpress design on a diagonal-striped background in blue, gold, and red. Two historical coin vignettes occupy the centre: the lower coin bears the legend GOTTES FREUNDT DER PFAFFEN FEINDT around a central cartouche, referencing Christian the Younger of Brunswick (dated 1622), while the upper coin shows an armoured figure with a cannon. The denomination 1 MARK appears in large bold numerals at the upper left and lower right corners, with the issuer inscription STADTSPARKASSE running diagonally at upper left and PADERBORN diagonally at lower right; two facsimile signatures and a validity clause appear in manuscript along the right margin. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | Bold woodcut-style illustration in blue, red, and gold on a plain ground, with the diagonal striped border repeated at all four corners. The central vignette depicts a group of armoured soldiers in vigorous motion carrying away a gold reliquary shrine, with a robed ecclesiastical figure at the right resisting the theft — a scene illustrating the 1622 plundering of Paderborn Cathedral. The designer's monogram JD appears in a small cartouche at lower left, and the legend DER RAUB DES DOMSCHATZES MIT DEN GEBEINEN DES HL. LIBORIUS ANNO 1622 is set in a decorative panel across the lower margin; STADTSPARKASSE and PADERBORN IN WEST. appear on diagonal banners at upper left and lower right respectively. |

Paderborn's municipal savings bank was one of hundreds of German local institutions forced into emergency currency issuance during the notgeld period, when the Reichsbank could not supply sufficient small-denomination coin and paper to meet everyday commercial demand. Fr. Wilh. Ruhfus was a well-established Dortmund printing house with a substantial notgeld workload in 1920, producing issues for numerous Westphalian municipalities in rapid succession.
The DeNG reference distinguishes multiple subtypes within this issue — the 1043.3-4/5 designation signals paper or printing variations significant enough to be catalogued separately, worth checking against known examples before attribution.
