| Opmerkingen |
Oflag VII-A at Murnau held predominantly Polish officers captured during the 1939 September Campaign, and by 1944 the camp had developed a functioning internal economy sophisticated enough to require its own scrip. This 1 Mark note is part of that system — issued by the prisoners themselves, not by German camp administration, which makes its authority unusual among Oflag currencies.
The handstamp security feature reflects improvised anti-counterfeiting by men with limited materials but considerable ingenuity. Murnau's officer population included engineers, lawyers, and career military men with time and motivation to make the scrip function seriously.
The camp was liberated by American forces in April 1945.
