| Description de l’avers | The obverse is divided into three vertical panels printed in black, red, and grey tones. The central panel bears a heraldic shield in black and red with the numeral '1' and the abbreviation 'Mk.' in red, encircled by a radiating arrangement of ribbon banners naming the constituent communes of the Landkreis (Langendreer, Weitmar, Altenbochum, Harpen, Stockum, Eichborn, Bergen, Düren, Dadenhorst, Günnigfeld, Werne, Gerthe, Hordel, Kiemke, and others), with the circular legend 'LANDKREIS · BOCHUM · LANDKREIS' surrounding the shield. The left and right panels contain detailed woodcut-style vignettes of industrial mining structures — headframes and pit buildings characteristic of the Ruhr coalfield — executed in a bold expressionist graphic manner. Below the central composition, a Gothic-script text block sets out the redemption conditions, dated 'Bochum, 1. November 1921', with a green rectangular ink stamp and a black serial number at the foot. |

The central vignette, rendered in a vigorous woodcut technique, shows four miners seen from behind, dressed in working clothes and helmets, standing in a group — an evocative Ruhr industrial scene. Below, within a red-ruled cartouche, a four-line humorous verse in Gothic blackletter script pays tribute to the coalminers of the region. |
