Additional information

Kitzingen's porcelain notgeld issues of 1921 were produced during the acute coin shortage that followed Germany's postwar economic dislocation, when municipalities across Bavaria turned to the Meissen and Plaue porcelain factories to strike emergency currency. Brown-glazed pieces from this series are considerably scarcer than their white counterparts — the coloring variants were not distributed in equal quantities, and brown examples saw lower production runs across most issuing cities.
