Fränkisch-Crumbach is a small village in the Odenwald, and its 1920–1921 notgeld issues were among the more deliberately artistic of the municipal emergency series — Carlos Tips, the Frankfurt printer and designer who signed the work, was one of a handful of craftsmen who treated notgeld commissions as genuine graphic design projects rather than administrative chores. The "Hannöverische Stiftungen" designation refers to charitable endowments historically associated with the Hanoverian foundations that held land interests in the region, an unusual institutional hook for a village scrip issue.
