Obverse description Dark blue notgeld note printed in a woodcut-style technique by Carlos Tips of Frankfurt. The central vignette presents a bust portrait of the legendary knight Rodenstein within a circular frame, flanked by two heraldic shields — that of Rodenstein on the left and of Gemmingen on the right. To the left, a vignette of the Ruine Rodenstein (Rodenstein ruin) is inscribed below, while to the right stands a view of the Kirche Fränkisch-Crumbach (Fränkisch-Crumbach church); the denomination "1 Mark" appears in large numerals at lower left and right within ornamental cartouches. The lower panel carries the issuing text and date "Den 1. April 1921" with two manuscript signatures below the line "Für den Stiftungsvorstand:".

Comments

Fränkisch-Crumbach is a small village in the Odenwald, and its 1920–1921 notgeld issues were among the more deliberately artistic of the municipal emergency series — Carlos Tips, the Frankfurt printer and designer who signed the work, was one of a handful of craftsmen who treated notgeld commissions as genuine graphic design projects rather than administrative chores. The "Hannöverische Stiftungen" designation refers to charitable endowments historically associated with the Hanoverian foundations that held land interests in the region, an unusual institutional hook for a village scrip issue.
