Christian IV struck these marks during a period of aggressive monetary reform — he had inherited a debased coinage and spent the early decades of his reign attempting to stabilize Danish silver on terms competitive with the riksdaler trade coinage circulating across the Baltic. The .593 fineness reflects a deliberate compromise, lower than the high-crown issues but calibrated to circulate alongside them without disappearing into the melt.
Hede 99 encompasses several die variations across the seven-year production window, and attribution can be tricky without reference to the crown punch variants documented in Danish specialist literature.
