The III. Armeekorps prisoner-of-war camp scrip system was a deliberately closed monetary circuit — notes issued by the Inspektion could only be spent within designated canteens, preventing prisoners from accumulating Reichsmark currency that might assist an escape attempt or be exploited upon repatriation. The 1 Mark denomination sat at the practical upper end of daily canteen transactions for most enlisted prisoners.
Ambrosius & Co. in Kirchhain, Niederlausitz, handled a number of regional camp scrip contracts during the war years. Their production was functional rather than security-focused — counterfeiting by prisoners was a real if minor concern, but the closed circulation environment made sophisticated anti-forgery measures largely unnecessary.
