Christian III consolidated Danish Lutheranism by royal decree following the Count's War, and his coinage program was part of a deliberate effort to project stable monarchical authority after years of civil conflict that had nearly bankrupted the crown. The Copenhagen mint resumed systematic silver production under his reign largely because the ecclesiastical wealth seized during the Reformation provided the bullion to do it.
