Bad Doberan's notgeld series is among the more artistically considered municipal issues of the 1921–22 period, and the involvement of Egon Tschirch is the reason. Tschirch was a Rostock-based painter and graphic artist with genuine regional credentials — his work drew on Mecklenburg landscape and history rather than the generic allegorical filler that most town councils accepted from commercial print houses.
The DeNG reference suffix indicating four variants (1-4/4) suggests this 1 Mark value was issued across multiple design states or color printings, a common device among municipalities that had discovered collector demand could offset production costs.
