| Opmerkingen |
Burg an der Wupper was a small industrial town in the Bergisches Land, historically tied to the metalworking trades along the Wupper river. Like hundreds of German municipalities in 1921, it issued its own emergency paper — Notgeld — to address a chronic shortage of small denomination coinage that persisted well after the armistice. These municipal issues were a local solution to a national supply failure, authorized under the broad tolerance shown by the Reichsbank toward improvised circulating media during this period.
The town merged into Solingen in 1929, which gives this note a terminal date — nothing further was ever issued under this authority.
