Cammin in Pommern — today Kamień Pomorski in northwestern Poland — issued this 1 Mark note through its municipal savings and giro office in 1922, a period when the Reichsbank simply could not supply enough currency to keep local economies functioning. The printer, M. Bauchwitz of Stettin, was a regional commercial press that handled a considerable volume of Pomeranian Notgeld during the hyperinflationary spiral, and Töpper's design work here was typical of the small-municipality commissions that flooded such firms.
Cammin was a modest episcopal town — its medieval cathedral chapter predates the Reformation — and the municipality had neither the resources nor the leverage to source anything more elaborate.
