Beschrijving voorzijde Pink-toned Kleinscheck note issued by the Städtische Sparkasse Plathe (Pom.), with the municipal coat of arms — a red griffin on a white shield — at centre, suspended by a decorative rope-and-tassel border. To the left, payment text in German and a Low German dialect verse; to the right, the denomination 'Eine Mark' in bold letterpress, with two manuscript signatures below 'Der Magistrat' and the account designation 'Konto A' in a ruled box at lower left. A handwritten verse on a scroll beneath the vignette reads a folk proverb in eight lines.

Opmerkingen

Plathe — now Płoty in northwestern Poland — was a small Pomeranian town whose municipal savings bank issued this note during the hyperinflationary spiral of 1922, when Reichsbank currency was depreciating faster than it could be printed and distributed. Local authorities across Germany responded by issuing their own Notgeld to plug the gap in small-denomination circulation. H. Susenbeth, a Stettin printer, handled production for several such regional issues in Pomerania.

The watermarked paper is notable for a note of this modest face value — many contemporary Notgeld issues dispensed with security features entirely.
