Opmerkingen

Steinfeld is a small parish in the Schleswig region, and its 1921 notgeld issue belongs to the dense second wave of German municipal emergency money that flooded circulation after the Reichsbank's coin shortage made small change effectively unobtainable. Thousands of German communes issued their own paper during this period, and Schleswig-area municipalities did so with particular urgency — the region had only just been partitioned between Germany and Denmark following the 1920 plebiscite, leaving local economies in administrative flux.

Steinfeld retained the German side of that partition. The 1 Mark denomination places this note in the transitional moment before hyperinflation rendered mark-denominated notgeld obsolete almost overnight.
