Vorderseitenbeschreibung The obverse is printed in rust-red and ochre-yellow on white paper, with the title inscription 'Notgeld Köslin im Jahre 1921' in ornate script along the upper orange banner. A central vignette in letterpress style renders a lively view of the Köslin market square, with the Gothic tower of the Marienkirche rising behind the town hall and a figurative fountain in the foreground, animated by townsfolk and a horse-drawn cart. Denomination roundels bearing '1 M' within decorative laurel wreaths occupy the upper left and right corners, with '1 M.' repeated in the lower corners, and the caption 'Der Markt in Köslin' appears beneath the vignette alongside the magistrate's manuscript signatures; the printer's imprint 'Kunstverlag Arthur Kolterjahn, Koeslin.' is set in the lower right margin.

Rückseitenbeschreibung The reverse is executed in blue and ochre-yellow on white paper, with the denomination '1 MARK' in bold block letters on orange banners at upper left and right. The central composition, signed 'O. THÄMER' at the bottom, shows two male figures in period dress — a reaper with a scythe on the left and a craftsman bearing a plank on the right — flanking an elaborate Baroque-style cartouche surmounted by the arms of Köslin, with a mitre above a shield enclosing a bearded head in profile. Below the coat of arms, an orange rectangular panel carries a ten-line Pomeranian verse in Gothic script; a validity notice in small type runs along the top edge.

Anmerkungen

Köslin's 1921 Notgeld issues were printed locally by Kunstverlag Arthur Kolterjahn, a commercial art publisher whose primary business was illustrated postcards — an unusual origin for a currency printer, but entirely typical of the German emergency money phenomenon, where municipalities contracted whoever had suitable presses nearby. Designer O. Thämer is otherwise obscure; the credit survives only because Notgeld producers of this period routinely signed their work, treating these small notes as collectibles from the outset.

The reference grouping DeNG 1/2#0735.1-5/6 indicates multiple variants within this single denomination issue, likely differing in serial range or minor design detail.
