| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse is divided into three vertical panels on a yellow-ochre ground with black ornamental scroll border. The central panel bears a large oval vignette with the elaborate quartered coat of arms of the House of Hesse-Philippsthal, supported by two rampant golden lions and surmounted by a royal crown, set against a blue ground. The left panel contains the municipal arms of Philippsthal — a red field with crossed hammer and staff — above the motto 'Hier wohnt ein nei Geschlecht', while the right panel displays a red Greek cross on white above the motto 'Standhaft und treu!'; both flanking panels carry the denomination 'Eine Mark' in Gothic script at the top. Along the lower margin, the issuing authority inscription in large Gothic lettering reads 'Philippsthal an der Werra am 1. Oktober 1921. Der Gemeindevorstand.' |

The left panel presents a vignette of a traditional hand loom ('Webstuhl'), rendered in fine illustrative style, with 'Eine Mark' in Gothic lettering at the base. The central and largest panel carries a colour landscape vignette of a half-timbered farmstead ('Deepskaller') set against wooded hills, signed by the artist 'E. Metz' at lower left, with 'Philippsthal a.d. Werra' inscribed on a red banner along the bottom edge. The right panel portrays a full-length figure of a local historical personality identified as 'Konrad Amhof', rendered in a folk-art illustrative manner, with 'Eine Mark' at the base. |
