Beschrijving voorzijde Multicolour lithograph in red, green, and gray on cream paper, with a hand-drawn vignette of the Keitum Kliff coastal scene: a thatched cottage amid dense trees on a grassy promontory overlooking the tidal flats, signed 'Reus' at lower right. The denomination numeral '1 M' appears in a decorative cartouche at upper left in Gothic blackletter, with the issuer title in bold blackletter across the top. A text panel at the base states the validity clause dated 1. Opmerkingen

Keitum is a village on Sylt's quieter eastern shore, and its municipal notgeld reflects that remove from mainland financial infrastructure. When the postwar coin shortage made small-denomination transactions nearly impossible in 1921, individual Gemeinden across Germany began issuing their own emergency notes — Keitum among them. Friedrich Ball operated locally in Westerland and handled both engraving and printing on the island itself, an unusual degree of vertical integration for a notgeld issue of this scale.

The watermarked paper gives it a security specification that many comparable village issues skipped entirely.
