| Obverse description | The note is laid out in three vertical panels against a gold and blue ground. The central panel carries a large polychrome heraldic vignette within an oval cartouche — a quartered coat of arms supported by two rampant lions and surmounted by a crown, executed in gold, red, blue, and white — while the left panel bears a smaller shield with crossed mining tools and the motto "Glück auf! / Hier wohnt ein rei Geschlecht" and the right panel displays a red cross on white with the legend "Standhaft und treu"; both flanking panels repeat the denomination "Eine Mark" in Gothic script at the head. The lower margin carries the issuing authority inscription in ornate blackletter: "Philippsthal an der Werra am 1. Oktober 1921. Der Gemeindevorstand." |

| Reverse description | The reverse mirrors the triptych layout of the obverse in a green and cream palette. The central panel presents a letterpress vignette of the Marktplatz as it appeared in 1750, showing a two-storey burgher building with a mansard roof set against a wooded hillside, captioned "Marktplatz" with the date "1750."; the left panel illustrates the Marktbrunnen — a rooster fountain with bucket — and the right panel shows a female figure with a ball labelled "Ballspiel", both side panels repeating "Eine Mark" at their base. The bottom margin bears the place name "Philippsthal a. d. Werra" in ornate blackletter, flanked by the denomination on each side. |
