The Polska Krajowa Kasa Pożyczkowa — the Polish State Loan Bank — was a monetary institution created under German occupation in 1916 to manage currency in the territory carved out as the Kingdom of Poland. By 1919 it was issuing notes for a newly independent state, though the institutional infrastructure was still built on wartime German administrative frameworks. The PKKP was dissolved in 1924 when the złoty replaced the marka as Poland's currency, making this entire series transitional by definition.
A print run of just over twelve million is modest for a low denomination note in a post-war economy experiencing serious inflationary pressure. Surviving circulated examples frequently show heavy wear.
