Wolfgang William of Palatinate-Neuburg acquired Ravensberg through his marriage to Magdalene of Cleves in 1609, inheriting a territory deeply contested during the prolonged Cleves-Jülich succession crisis. His Mariengroschen issues of the early 1630s fall squarely within the Kipper und Wipperzeit's inflationary aftermath, when small billon coinage across the German states was being aggressively debased. The county's output during this window was modest, and Ravensberg issues of this type are consequently scarce in any condition today.
