Additional information

East Frisia had been absorbed into Prussia in 1744 following the extinction of the Cirksena dynasty, making Frederick II the first Hohenzollern ruler to issue coinage for the territory. These small billon pieces were struck at the Aurich mint under Prussian administration during a period when Frederick was actively standardizing coinage across his scattered domains — a policy that sat uneasily with the regional monetary traditions still observed in the northwest.
